I am a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Research Fellow at University College London (UCL). I am based at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience and UCL Division of Psychiatry. My research focusses on different styles of thinking and the impact on mental health in children and adolescents. I am currently investigating the neurocognitive basis of one particular style of thinking known as rumination (repetitive negative thinking). I also work clinically as an Honorary Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in The Assessment Team. My clinical interests lie in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental conditions (ASD, ADHD, OCD, Tourette Syndrome, Tics), neuropsychiatric and mood related difficulties (low mood, depression and anxiety) in children and adolescents. Alongside my academic and clinical work I enjoy writing for mainstream media and focus on contemporary issues in mental health and wellbeing. My work has been published in several outlets including The Huffington Post, The Mental Movement Magazine and The Wellness Motion. I also write regularly in a conversational tone on my Substack, Think Soup. Here, I write about the modern world in which we exist. I share stories and academic-cultural critiques on things related to the human mind.
